It was a predictably eventful evening in LA this past Sunday at the 96th Academy Awards, hosted at the Dolby Theater.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the stand-out moments were John Cena\u2019s naked walk across the stage to present the award for Best Costume Design and Al Pacino\u2019s decision to skip over the nominations for Best Film altogether, instead going straight to announcing the winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were also plenty of talking points to be gleaned from the red carpet, not least relating to the plethora of eye-catching outfits on show. As per reports, actress Kelly Ripa and husband Mark Consuelos were among those to steal the show, with the former causing a particular stir on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Celebrities dominating headlines for their choice of garment for any particular awards ceremony is nothing new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet in the age of social media, where live photos from the red carpet can be shared around the world at the click of a button, it\u2019s become arguably more popular than ever to discuss and debate outfits in real time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As such, it\u2019s only natural to expect that an event of the magnitude of the Oscars, and those fortunate enough to be in attendance, is always going to be heavily scrutinized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among those who found their fashion choices dissected online this year was Kelly Ripa, who uploaded her outfit \u2013 a dazzling black, see-through gown \u2013 to Instagram along with the caption: \u201cMom and dad storming the red carpet.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There, it was met with a wave of appreciation from her legion of fans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou both look amazing. BUT that dress is stunning \u2764\u2764\u2764<\/em>,\u201d one person wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beautiful gown. Beautiful couple<\/em>,\u201d another added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cKelly, your hair, the dress\u2026 you look gorgeous,<\/em>\u201d a third said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, it wasn\u2019t all compliments. There were those who questioned Ripa\u2019s decision to don the dress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI love you Kelly but not this dress<\/em>,\u201d one detractor wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another added: \u201cUnlike Mark not to have a perfectly tailored suit or tux on. His clothes are usually impeccable.<\/em>\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A third wrote: \u201cKelly wear some bike shorts. You are lowering your self in the see through dress. You\u2019re better than that!<\/em>\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe doesn\u2019t even look like the same person anymore ?\u200d\u2640\ufe0f<\/em>\u201d a fourth opined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
